How Catalonia building indicators are calculated

These explanations apply to the Catalonia building methods currently used in the Barcelona metropolitan coverage. Other countries and regions need their own methods and sources.

Energy certificates

Polymap first uses a matched whole-building certificate when the latest records agree. If none is matched, it can show the median class of the latest certificates for identifiable apartments. Conflicting latest whole-building classes leave the class unknown.

An apartment median is not a certificate or measured rating for the whole building. Certificate count and estimated apartment coverage describe different things; missing certificates do not mean poor efficiency.

Expected original sound insulation

The es-ct-acoustic-v3 method combines the recorded construction period, its uncertainty and the applicable regulation era to estimate the original internal sound-insulation baseline for supported residential buildings.

This is not a sound measurement. Later work, workmanship and apartment position can change actual conditions; a renovation record alone does not confirm acoustic improvements.

Expected original thermal insulation

The es-ct-thermal-v2 method maps the construction period and its uncertainty to the likely original building-envelope standard for supported residential buildings.

This is not an inspection of current walls, roof or windows, and it is separate from the official energy certificate. Later insulation work may not appear in the available records.
